Track and Field: Saints get national qualifier at home meet

Lacey, WA – Jillian Stray hurled the javelin 140’9 3/4” to set a new school record and grab an NCAA DII national qualifying mark as Saint Martin’s hosted their first ever home meet Saturday on the SMU campus.
The event saw a total of 10 schools and over 500 athletes compete and was the first meet held at the brand new track and field facility completed just last year.
Anthony Player bettered his own recently set school record with a throw of 183’7.5” in the javelin. Player also set a pr in the men's shot with a throw of 37'7.5".

Josh DeVaughn also ran a personal record to break his own school record in the 200m with a time of 22.20.
Both Annie Laweryson and Kyle Van Santen continued their solid performances. Laweryson won the women’s 800m in 2:20.99. Van Santen bided his time until the last mile of the men’s 5k before picking up the pace and taking the win in 15:23.77.
Kaila Weiks mark in the women's triple jump of 34'1.5"  was a GNAC provisional qualifier and personal record. 

Other Personal records came from Kevin Hudson in the javelin at 161’1”, a GNAC provisional qualifying mark; Joseph Patti in the 800m at 1:56.03 and Karissa Owen in the 800m at 2:26.20.
Spencer Hunt’s 4:03.73 in the 1500m was a GNAC provisional qualifier and a personal best. Ed Brown set a pr in the men’s 200m (23.37) as did Dane Kosel in the men’s shot (39’1”). Hannah Scholter threw the javelin 98'10.5" for a new pr.


“What a great day for our program! Our first home meet and a national qualifying mark by Jillian,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “We had some great performances, the meet went smoothly, and the weather cooperated. Many thanks to all the staff, student-athletes from other sports, and alums.”

Next on the schedule for the Saints is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship meet in Monmouth, OR on May 14-15.
