Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s javelin thrower Jillian Stray has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships that will be held at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Charlotte, NC May 27-29.
Stray becomes the second woman from SMU to make it to the national meet along with Saints Hall of Famer Julie Matteson, who also qualified in the javelin. Matteson competed at the 2000 championship finishing ninth.
Earlier this season Stray broke Matteson’s school record at the Saint Martin’s Invitational with a throw of 140’10’. The mark ranks her 17th in the nation going into the meet.
“I would like to thank coach Sabrina Eames,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “Since she came into the program in February she has really turned the throws program around, and athletes like Jillian have responded well to her coaching.”
