Monmouth, OR – Saint Martin’s track and field team put in a solid performance at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships hosted by Western Oregon University.
Josh DeVaughn set yet another school record in the men’s 100m preliminaries with a time of 10.9, and finished fifth in the finals at 11.11.
Joseph Patti lowered his personal record to 1:54.80in the 800m prelims and ran a 1:56.50 to finish fifth in the final. Kyle Van Santen was sixth in the 5k at 14:50.37.
The men’s 4 x 400m relay team of Cameron Grossaint, Connor Flaherty, Travis Dodge and DeVaughn ran a season’s best time of 33:28.71 to take sixth. Anthony Player placed 8th in the javelin with a throw of 179’2”.
On the women’s side the ladies also produced finalists, personal records and season’s best marks. Helen Camden placed 8th in the women’s 10k in 40:25.61, to finish her college career with a season’s best and points on the board. In the women’s 4 x 400m relay Kaila Weiks, Karissa Owen, Ashley Llapitan, and Annie Laweryson put together a season’s best time of 4:16.21, finishing eighth in their final.
Weiks also notched two personal records in her individual events. Her jump of 16’11.5” was good enough to make the final and help her finish ninth, while she jumped 34’7.75” in the triple jump, just short of the final nine.
Jillian Stray made the final in the women’s javelin finishing ninth with a throw of 126’1”.
“This was a positive end to the year,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “There were some stellar performances from our athletes. It was good to be represented in the finals and to pick up points in what is, and will continue to be, a tough conference for track and field.”
The NCAA Division II qualifiers will be announced on Wednesday, May 19. Stray ranks 16th in the javelin and hopes to be heading to Charlotte, NC on May 27.
