Softball: Eugenio named GNAC Freshman of the Year

Spokane, WA – Saint Martin’s Joslyn Eugenio was named as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year while four others earned second-team honors.
Eugenio, who was outstanding for the Saints both at the plate and in the circle, was a unanimous selection. She finished the season with a team-high .392 batting average, third in the conference, while leading the GNAC with 20 doubles. Eugenio led the team in batting average, slugging percentage (.546), on base percentage (.413), hits (76), runs batted in (28) and total bases (106). She also posted an 8-13 record with a 3.65 ERA.
Earning second-team honors were Morgan Klemm at third base, Megan Antonovich and Kristine Kaneshiro in the outfield, and Brandi Klemm at the designated player position.
Morgan Klemm batted .333 for the Saints. She drove in 28 runs, tied for best on the team, and scored a team-high 30 runs.
As the Saints’ leadoff hitter Antonovich’s .299 batting average was fourth best on the team. She was second in runs scored at 28 and 3rd in total hits with 52.
Kaneshiro finished the season batting .284 with 33 hits, including six doubles. At the designated player position Brandi Klemm posted a .279 batting average in 48 at bats
SMU also had one honorable mention selection, Kristi Sigafoos at second base. She batted .316 with a .349 on base percentage, both third best on the team. She drove in 23 runs and had nine doubles.
