Spokane, WA – Saint Martin’s outfielder Andrew Elke and first baseman Travis Jones were named to the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference baseball all-conference team while three others were second-team selections.
Elke, a junior transfer from Phoenix College, led the conference in on base percentage (.530), was second in stolen bases with 16 and third in total runs scored with 48. Elke also finished the season second in the nation in walks per game (1.08) and third in total walks (52). His 52 walks was tops in the conference and set a GNAC all-time single-season record, eclipsing the previous record of 44 set by SMU’s Bub Bergstrom in 2004.
Jones led the Saints in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.333), slugging percentage (.474) and doubles (10). His 45 RBI was first on the team and third in the GNAC.
Pitchers Michael McIver and James Douglas as well as third baseman Josh Grenier earned second-team honors.
McIver posted a 4.30 earned run average on the season, fifth best in the conference. He was also second in the nation in fewest walks allowed per nine innings at .86. He walked a total seven batters all season. McIver also earned honorable mention as a designated hitter.
Douglas finished the season with a 5-0 record for the Saints, tied for fifth in the conference. He made 10 appearances and recorded a 4.70 ERA.
Grenier batted .315 on the season and tallied 56 hits, sixth best in the GNAC. He led the Saints in total bases at 74 and tied with Jones for the most doubles with 10.
Catcher Luke Abbott earned honorable mention with a .301 batting average and a .399 slugging percentage. He had 43 hits and drove in 31 runs for SMU.
