Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s picked up two wins to sweep past Simon Fraser defeating the Clan 6-5 and 4-2 in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon at the SMU Softball Field.
The Saints won game one in the bottom of the ninth on a throwing error by Clan outfielder Jessie Harris that allowed Megan Antonovich to score the game-winner.
SMU put p a five spot in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run double to right center by Kelsie McGladrey, a RBI single by Morgan Klemm and a SFU error.
But the Clan chipped away getting three runs in the fifth and tying the game in the seventh and forcing the extra frames.
Antonovich led off the ninth with a double before coming around to score. Antonovich, Klemm and McGladrey all finished with two hits.
Brandi Klemm earned the win, throwing all nine innings and striking out two.
Kristine Kaneshiro was the difference maker for the Saints in game two. She had a RBI single in the second inning and drove in a run with a double in the fourth.
Kristi Sigafoos and Antonovich both picked up RBI in the Saints’ three-run second inning. Sigafoos and Kaneshiro accounted for half of SMU’s eight hits.
Simon Fraser’s two runs came on a homer by Leah Riske in the sixth inning.
The wins completed a four-game season sweep of Simon Fraser. The Saints defeated the Clan earlier this month in Burnaby, B.C.
Amanda Arnzen got the win in game two with Joslyn Eugenio picking up the save. Eugenio retired all five hitters she faced and struck out two.
The Saints, 19-33 overall, will play their final series of the season this weekend against Western Washington University in Bellingham.
