Lacey, WA – Montana State Billings used a two run seventh inning in game one and a big six run fifth inning in the second game to come away with two wins, 8-7 and 8-4, over host Saint Martin’s on Saturday at the SMU Softball Field.
MSUB took a 6-0 lead before the Saints mounted a comeback in game one. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth Jaimee Aiwohi walked and Kristine Kaneshiro singled up the middle. Megan Antonovich then belted a homer to cut the Saints’ deficit in half.
In the sixth the Saints got two on errors by the Yellowjackets before Emily Squiers stepped up and hit a the-run shot to left to put SMU on top 7-6.
But Billings rallied getting back-to-back homers from Kelly Parsons and Kaycee Hoffman for the win.
The Saints got two hits each from Antonovich, Kirstin Davidson and Morgan Klemm. Brandi Klemm took the loss in 4 1/3 innings of relief.
Hoffman finished the day 3-for-4, including two home runs, with five RBI and three runs scored.
Holding onto a 2-0 lead in game two, the Yellowjackets brought out the bats plating six runs in the fifth to break the game open. They had five hits in the inning highlighted by a three run double by Rachel Eisenmann.
Saint Martin’s got two back in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI double by Joslyn Eugenio and a run scoring single from Morgan Klemm. They added two more in the sixth with Aiwohi and Kaneshiro driving in runs but that was as close as they would get.
The Saints outhit Billings 13-8 but committed four errors in the game. Kristi Sigafoos led the Saints with three hits.
The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon.
