Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s Jack Whealdon was named as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s golf Freshman of the Year while four others earned first and second-team honors.
Whealdon averaged 75.86 strokes per round on the season and was the only freshman named to the all-conference team.
“As a freshman, Jack had a solid season,” said head coach Kevin Bishop. “As he gets more accustomed to the travel involved in collegiate golf he will only get stronger and gain consistency from the first round to the last. Jack will have a very successful career at SMU.”
Zach Dietz and Justin Lanman were both first-team all-conference selections. Dietz averaged a 74.33, fourth best in the GNAC, while Lanman came in with a 74.84 average, fifth best.
Representing the Saints in the second-team, along with Whealdon, was Olof Rosborg and Kevin Jech. Rosborg posted an average round of 75.28 and Jech carded a 77.11 on average.
“Building a strong team from top to bottom was definitely my emphasis in developing a consistently strong program,” said Bishop. “With five players earning all-conference honors, it shows we are getting the depth needed to be competitive with the top teams in DII golf. I am looking forward to upcoming seasons.”
The Saints will find out whether or not they qualified for the regional tournament later this week.
