Lacey, WA – Central Washington blasted four homeruns as the defeated Saint Martin’s 7-5 and 10-1 in the final two games of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference four-game series on Sunday at the SMU Softball Field.
With the score tied 2-2 in game one the Saints took the lead on a three-run shot to left field by Brandi Klemm to make it 5-2. But Central answered back with a four spot in the fifth, highlighted by a three run shot by Kelsey Haupert to put the Wildcats on top for good.
SMU outhit Central 11-8 in the game, led by Morgan Klemm with three hits while Megan Antonovich and Joslyn Eugenio had two each.
Central jumped ahead in game two scoring three runs in the first then plated three more in the second on back-to-back homeruns by Keilani Cruz and Samantha Petrich.
The Wildcats would go on to score in each of the last three innings in the shortened six inning ballgame.
SMU’s only run came in the first on a RBI groundout by Morgan Klemm, who had two hits in the game. Kristine Kaneshiro was the only other Saint with two hits.
With the losses Saint Martin’s falls to 14-26 on the season and 10-18 in the GNAC.
The Saints will play a non-conference doubleheader against Simon Fraser this Wednesday in Burnaby, B.C.
