Bellingham, WA – Josh DeVaughn continues to re-write the Saint Martin’s record books as he set two new records at the Western Washington University Ralph Vernacchia Meet on Friday. The Saints also had one other new school record, three wins and three Great Northwest Athletic Conference qualifying times at the meet.
DeVaughn posted a huge jump of 21’11” in winning the men’s long jump, bettering his school record by nine inches. He also improved his 100m record to 11:04. DeVaughn also finished second in the 200m at 22:55 and the ran the first leg of the men’s 4 x 400m along with Joseph Patti, Cameron Grossaint and Travis Dodge to set a season’s best time of 3:29.26.
Cymbree Decosta improved on her school record in the women’s high jump when she jumped 4’7” to better he old mark by one inch.
Other wins on the day came from Kyle Van Santen in the men’s 5,000m and Julianna Sackeyfio in the triple jump. Van Santen finished in a time of 14:58.19 while Spencer Hunt’s time of 15:11.68 put him in third. Sackeyfio posted a jump of 34’11.75” to pick up her first place finish.
The Saints also saw a total of ten personal records set along with two additional GNAC provisional qualifiers. Kaitlynn Pecha’s 18:54.16 in the 5k was a 33 second pr while Nick Harvey improved on his 10,000m time by over 40 seconds running a 33:36.99.
“There were some great performances today. I speak on behalf of all of our coaches when I say that it was a satisfying day to see everyone out there giving it their all,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “Athletes and coaches have worked very hard all year and we are starting to see some big moves forward; it’s very exciting.”
The Saints’ next meet will be the Western Washington Twi-lite Meet on April 23rd.
