Monmouth, OR – Saint Martin’s had four players score in double figures as they finished off the 09-10 season with a 72-69 victory over Western Oregon University on Saturday night at the New PE Building.
After trailing the entire first half SMU took their first lead with 13:07 left in the second half on a layup by Jamey Gelhar. The two teams vied for the edge with six lead changes and five ties.
With just 39 seconds on the clock the Saints took the lead for good as Krissy Bassett sank a free throw to make it 70-69 game. SMU then forced a turnover. Gelhar then made two more from the charity stripe to seal the win.
Gelhar led the charge for the Saints with 18 points and had four steals. Bassett added 13 points while Dara Zack and Katie Hawkins had 11 points each.
Hawkins pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for SMU, who held a 34-29 advantage on the boards.
Katie Torland and Sara Zahler had 19 points apiece for the Wolves, who were outshot 48.9 percent to 39.3 percent in the game.
Saint Martin’s finishes the season with a 12-15 overall record and 6-10 in the GNAC.
