Ellensburg, WA – Saint Martin’s took game two against Central Washington on Saturday 4-2 but fell in their other three games, 3-1, 8-0, 10-5 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference series at Frederick Field.
After dropping game one SMU plated three in the top of the first to jump out to the early lead in the second game. With two outs Kristine Kaneshiro and Morgan Klemm drew back-to-back walks. Kelsie McGladrey followed with a shot over the left field wall to make it 3-0.
The Saints tacked on another run in the fifth on a RBI single by Jaimee Aiwohi. Central got one run each in the second and fifth but couldn’t put anything else together.
Amanda Arnzen picked up the win throwing four innings and allowing just two earned runs on six hits. Brandi Klemm was credited with the save.
In Sunday’s opener Lauren Hadenfeld held Saint Martin’s to just four hits and struck out eight in five innings of work. Three of the Saints’ hits were single by Megan Antonovich.
SMU took a 5-0 lead in the second game getting one run in the first on a passed ball then scoring four runs in the second. Antonovich drove in two on a single up the middle. One batter later Kaneshiro hit an RBI single to left. Joslyn Eugenio capped things off with a RBI double down the right field line.
But Central rallied with a five run third to tie it. They tacked on two more in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Hadenfeld came in for CWU and threw five innings of two-hit relief to stifle the Saints bats and help Central to the win. Brandi Klemm was tagged with the loss for SMU.
The Saints, now 4-9 overall and 3-5 in the GNAC, will play their first home games of the season next weekend with a four game series against Western Oregon University.
