Ellensburg, WA – Central Washington outscored Saint Martin’s 9-1 in the overtime period to take the 78-70 victory in the Saints final game of the season Saturday night at Nicholson Pavilion.
The Saints led by as much as 14 in the first half but Central hit three consecutive treys to cut it to five, 38-33, going into the break. CWU took their first lead at the 15:13 mark on two made free throws by Noble’D Shelton.
Central led the rest of the way until Galen Squiers hit a three to tie it 69-69 with 13 seconds left and force the extra period. But the extra period was all CWU as the Saints only point came on a free throw by Squiers.
Blake Poole put up impressive numbers to lead the Saints with 31 points and 17 rebounds, including 16 points and 12 boards in the first half. Squiers finished the game with 12 points, the only other Saint in double figures.
CWU was led by Jon Clift with 15 points while Chris Sprinker added 12 points and 14 rebounds.
The Saints finish their season with a 14-13 record overall and 4-12 in the GNAC.
