Ellensburg, WA – Jamey Gelhar and Dara Zack combined for 48 points to lead Saint Martin’s to a 76-64 over host Central Washington University on Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Nicholson Pavilion.
Gelhar finished with a game-high 25 points going four for four from behind the arc and 11 of 14 from the free throw line. Zack added 23 points on seven of 12 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the year.
SMU held onto a three point, 34-31, lead at halftime but the two team battled for control in the second half and saw the lead change hands six times.
With 7:55 to play, CWU had a one point lead but Zack hit back-to-back layups to kick start a 13-3 run by the Saints an give them the lead for good.
Roni Jo Mielke also added 11 points for Saint Martin’s and had five assists while Krissy Bassett tacked on 10 points.
The Wildcats took control of the boards outrebounding SMU 41-33 but had more turnovers, 19-15. Sara Bergner had a team-high 21 points for CWU.
The Saints wrap up play this Saturday against Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.
