Monmouth, OR – After going down by as much as 19 in the second half, Saint Martin’s mounted an impressive come back to catch and pass Western Oregon but ended up just shy falling 59-56 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the New PE Building.
Saint Martin’s started the half facing a 41-26 deficit but outscored the Wolves 26-9 over the first 10 minutes putting together a string of five consecutive three-pointers, four in a row from Galen Squiers, to take their first lead of the game at 52-50.
But SMU was held to just two points over the final five minutes and Western Oregon took the decisive lead on a layup by Rico Myles with 2:32 on the clock.
Squiers finished with a game-high 21 points, scoring 16 in the second half alone. Blake Poole had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds with Brady Bomber dishing out six assists.
Western Oregon had four players in double figures led by Matt Schmidt with 17 points.
The Saints will finish their season at Central Washington University on Saturday.
