Tacoma, WA – The Saint Martin’s track and field team had four school records, seven wins, two meet records and a host of personal and conference qualifying marks this Saturday at the Joe Peyton Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound.
The first school record came from Julianna Sackeyfio in the triple jump. Sackeyfio won the event with a jump of 35’1” which was also a conference qualifying mark.
Samantha Hull broke the pole vault record at 9’6.25”, also a GNAC qualifier. In the men’s pole vault Charles Lawson pushed the school record to 11’.
Cymbree Decosta nabbed the Saints four school record of the day, besting the recently set women’s high jump record with a jump of 4’6”.
Meet records were set by Annie Laweryson when she won the women’s 800m in a time of 2:21.23 and Joseph Patti in the men’s 800m in 1:57.26.
Anthony Player took home the win in the javelin with a GNAC qualifying throw of 161’1”. Josh DeVaughn finished the day with three wins including the 200m, 22.80 and the long jump, 20’5”. He was also part of the winning 4 x 400 relay team of Travis Dodge, Connor Flaherty and Cameron Grossaint.
Krinda Carlson recorded a conference qualifying mark in the 1500m of 4:59.34.
Player, Dane Kosel, Jacob Suazo, Kyle Karnofski, Jillian Stray, and Flaherty all set personal records on the day.
“As the season moves on the results get better and better,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “We had some great performances on the day which was capped with a win in the last event, the 4 x 400m. It was a great sight to see the team spread around the track cheering those guys on.”
On Friday SMU had three Saints take part in the San Francisco Distance Carnival. Kyle Van Santen ran a 14:48.83 5k, just four seconds shy of his school record and NCAA qualifying. His time was however a GNAC automatic qualifying time. Spencer Hunt also posted a qualifying time in the race finishing second in his heat in 15:11.87. Joseph Patti won his heat of the 800m with a time of 1:58.12, a conference provisional qualifier.
The teams’ next meet will be Saturday, April 3 at the Shotwell Invitational hosted by UPS.
