Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s set the bar high, landing the most student-athletes on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Basketball Academic all-conference team with a total of 11, nine women and two men.
Roni Jo Mielke and Emily Lashua posted the highest grade point average. Both have a near perfect 3.97 GPA. Mielke is a junior majoring in biology while Lashua, a sophomore, is an education major.
Jamey Gelhar and Megan Busch were two of seven players to be selected for the third year. Gelhar is a senior majoring in business with a 3.53 GPA. Busch, who is majoring in math, maintains a 3.41 grade point.
Making the team for the second year were Dara Zack and Katie Hawkins along with Mielke. Zack has a 3.93 GPA as a junior education major. An English major, Hawkins currently has a 3.69 grade point average.
Rounding out the girls honorees are Kelsey Baker, Danika Lawson and Megan Teade. Baker, undeclared, and Teade, a business major, are both sophomores with 3.81 and 3.47 GPAs respectively. Lawson is in her senior year and has a 3.91 GPA as a business major.
Representing the men’s team are seniors Dane Henze and Charlie Severs. Henze is a biology major maintaining a 3.50 GPA while Severs holds a 3.37 grade point as an engineering major.
To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20, be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
