Tacoma, WA – Saint Martin’s began their outdoor season with four school records, three wins and numerous personal records and Great Northwest Athletic Conference qualifying times at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on Saturday.
Josh DeVaughn set two school records and came very close to a third while posting automatic GNAC qualifying times in all three events. He ran school records on 11.05 in the 100m to take second and a 22.33 in the 200m to take third. His win came in the long jump with a 21’2.50” putting him just shy of the record.
Samantha Hull set the school record in the pole vault with a third place jump of 8’11” after winning the women’s javelin with a throw of 128’9”. Jillian Stray completed the 1-2 finish for the Saints in the javelin taking second with a throw of 123’7”. Both marks were GNAC provisional distances.
Hannah Scholter set a school record in the high jump with a 4’4” clearance. She also set a PR in the 400m hurdles finishing third with a time of 1:12.90.
Other winners on the day were Annie Laweryson in the women’s 800m in 2:24.39, and Kyle Van Santen in the men’s 5000m in 15:26.13, a GNAC provisional mark.
Julianna Sackeyfio had a personal record and a provisional qualifier in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 33’10.25”. She also tied for second in the long jump with teammate Kaila Weiks with a distance of 15’8.25”.
Joseph Patti ran to a third place finish in the 1500m with a PR of 4:03.97, also a GNAC provisional qualifying time.
Other personal records came from Spencer Hunt in the men’s 1500m, 4:06.23, and the 5k, 15:47.65. While Kevin Hudson launched the javelin 152’1” for a six foot PR.
“This was a positive start to our outdoor campaign,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “The team performed admirably and the results speak for themselves. There was a great team spirit and camaraderie today that was infectious. I know that I speak on behalf of the entire coaching staff when I say that we can’t wait until the next meet.”
The Saints next meet will be March 27th at the San Francisco State Carnival Meet.
