Nampa, ID – Saint Martin’s swept past Northwest Nazarene with a pair of 5-1 wins on Saturday after falling 5-0 and 3-1 on Friday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests at Halle Field.
With the score tied 1-1 going into the sixth inning of Saturday’s game one, the Saints broke things open with a four spot in the top half of the inning.
After an RBI single to right field by Kristine Kaneshiro to score the go-ahead run, Morgan Klemm launched on over the left field wall giving the Saints some insurance.
Klemm finished the day one for two with four RBI. Joslyn Eugenio and Kaneshiro both had two hits in the game.
Eugenio started on the mound for SMU, tossing a complete game and allowing just one earned run on seven hits. The Saints also had seven hits in the game but capitalized on timely hitting and a couple of NNU errors.
The Crusaders scored first in game two getting one run in the bottom of the third but SMU answered back, again in the sixth. With the bases loaded and two out, Jaimee Aiwohi singled to center to drive in two and put the Saints on top for good.
Saint Martin’s tacked on two more in the seventh on a bases clearing double by Kristi Sigafoos to put the game away.
Amanda Arnzen got the win allowing just one hit and one earned run over seven innings of work. Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey had three hits apiece in the game.
The Saints struggled to find their stride on Friday as they were shut out in game one and managed just one run in game two. Chelsey Anderson held SMU to just two hits in the first game, one by Kaneshiro and one from Emily Squiers.
Saint Martin’s only run in game two came in the first inning off the bat of Kaneshiro who singled to score Megan Antonovich.
SMU is on the road again this weekend when they travel to Central Washington for a four game series.
