Women's Basketball: Saints can't stop Vikings

Bellingham, WA – Western Washington tallied their 10th straight victory with a 77-64 win over Saint Martin’s in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night on Haggen Court at the Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Western led most of the game but was ahead by just seven, at 60-53, with seven minutes to play. But broke things open scoring seven points in less than a minute to start a 13-3 run and give them a 73-56 advantage with just under four minutes to play. The Saints would not get closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Dara Zack had a team high 19 points, including three treys, for the Saints who were six for 10 from behind the arc. Krissy Bassett scored 11 points while Jamey Gelhar added nine.
WWU, tied for No. 19 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN NCAA DII Top 25 Pool and No. 2 in the West Region poll, improved to 19-2 overall and 10-0 in the GNAC. They were led by Willow Cabe with 26 points and Jessica Summers with 15.
With the loss SMU falls to 8-12 overall and 2-7 in the GNAC.
The Saints remain on the road next Thursday as they travel to Nampa, ID to take on Northwest Nazarene.
