Lacey, WA – Jamey Gelhar tallied her 1000th career point as Saint Martin’s rolled to an 80-67 victory over Western Oregon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest Thursday night at the Marcus Pavilion.
Krissy Bassett hit a layup to start off the game and the Saints didn’t trail the entire game. A layup by Kelsey Baker with two seconds on the clock would give SMU a double digit, 36-25, lead going into the break.
Saint Martin’s scored the first nine points right out of the gate in the second half to take their biggest lead of the game at 45-25. The hot shooting Saints hit at a 54 percent clip in the half as Dara Zack picked up 15 of her game-high 26 points.
Fittingly, Gelhar reached the 1000 point plateau at the free throw line. Gelhar came into the game just five points shy of the milestone and with 4:38 to play in the first half she found herself at the line, needing just one but sinking both. She would finish the game with 18 points, shooting a perfect game; 4-4 from the field, including 2-2 from behind the arc, and 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Krissy Bassett was the only other Saint in double figures with 10 points while she and Zack both had seven rebounds. Western Oregon was led by Sara Zahler with 23 points and Lorrie Clifford with 11.
The Saints are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Bellingham to take on Western Washington in the first game of a doubleheader slated for 5:15pm.
