Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s battled with No. 17 Seattle Pacific but couldn’t find their stride to overcome the hot shooting Falcons, losing 66-55, in their final Great Northwest Athletic Conference home game of the year at the Marcus Pavilion on Thursday night.
Katie Hawkins scored the first two points of the game but SPU quickly answered with two points from Melissa Reich to tie it and never looked back. The Falcons would score 14 of the next 18 points to open up a double digit lead and went into the break up 36-24.
Saint Martin’s cut their deficit to eight twice before SPU rallied and opened up their biggest lead of the game at 62-45 with 5:36 left to play. Over the next four and a half minutes the Saints put together a 10-2 run, including seven points from Dara Zack, to make it a nine point ballgame at 64-55 with 59 seconds on the clock.
Krissy Bassett led the Saints with a game-high 14 points on Senior Night. Zack finished the night with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jamey Gelhar added 11 points and three assists for the Saints who dropped to 10-15 on the season and 4-10 in conference play.
Seattle Pacific, who improves to 21-3 overall and 21-1 in the GNAC, got 14 points from Daesha Henderson and 13 points and 13 rebounds from Megan Hoisington.
The Saints will finish out their season on the road next week with games at Central Washington and Western Oregon.
