Lacey, WA – For the fourth time this season Blake Poole scored 30 points to help Saint Martin’s to a 91-75 win over the University of Alaska Fairbanks Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Marcus Pavilion.
Poole, who had 12 points in the first half, finished the game 10-for-15 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line. He pulled down 11 rebounds on the way to his conference leading 16th double-double of the season.
UAF opened up an 8-0 lead to start off the game but the Saints closed the gap and tied it at 14-14 on a three by Brady Bomber. A layup by Jeremy Green put the Saints on top where they stayed going into halftime, 40-37.
The two teams battled for control early on in the second half but a three by Galen Squiers with 10:43 put the Saints on top for good. SMU scored the final five points of the game to cap off the victory.
Green added 18 points for the Saints while Squiers and Bomber finished with 15 apiece. Bomber also dished out nine assists without a turnover in 35 minutes of play.
The Saints, now 13-10 overall and 3-9 in the GNAC, shot 55.9 percent from the field.
Maynard led the Nanooks with 23 points while Emmanuel Jenkins, who put up 12 in the second half, finished the game with 20 points.
“I really liked our composure tonight, especially in the second half when Jenkins was making some great shots,” said head coach Keith Cooper. “Galen and Blake showed really good leadership tonight, the guys just didn’t get rattled.”
The Saints are back in action on Saturday against the University of Alaska Anchorage as part of a doubleheader with tip-off set for 7:30pm. It is ‘Think Pink Night’ and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game as the Saints show their support in the fight against breast cancer.
