Women's Basketball: Saints knock off Yellowjackets

Lacey, WA – Jamey Gelhar and Krissy Bassett had 19 points each to lead Saint Martin’s to a 73-56 win over visiting Montana State Billings Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Marcus Pavilion.
With the score 10-8 in their favor, SMU put together a 10-0 run, including five points from Emily Lashua, to take a double digit, 20-8, lead over the Yellowjackets at the 10:14 mark.
Saint Martin’s went ahead by 15 before MSUB rally with 10 unanswered points of their own to make it a 27-22 ballgame. But two made free throws and back-to-back buckets from Lashua put an end to the Yellowjackets comeback.
The Saints took a 37-24 advantage into the break and build their lead to as much as 23 in the second half before settling on the final score.
Along with her 19 points, Bassett also had a team-high nine rebounds while Gelhar added four assists and three steals. Dara Zack was the other Saint in double figures with 14 points.
SMU, now 9-13 overall and 3-8 in the GNAC, shot 52.1 percent from the field, 60 percent from the three and 94.4 percent from the free throw line where they hit 17 of 18.
The Saints remain at home next week with a game against Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, February 18th. The women will play the first game of a doubleheader starting at 5:15pm.
