Nampa, ID – A solid offensive night helped Northwest Nazarene defeat Saint Martin’s 91-72 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday night at the Johnson Sports Center.
The Crusaders shot 59 percent (36-61) from the field including going 15 of 22 (68.2 percent) from behind the arc. Kendall Gielow led the charge with 18 points while Louie Beech scored 17 and Anthony Golden added 15.
With 10 minutes to play in the second half NNU broke the game open with a 16-3 run to take a 38-24 lead and solidify their hold on the game. The Crusaders took a 48-34 lead into halftime. Jeremy green hit a jumper to open the second half that made it a 12 point game but that was as close as the Saints would get the rest of the way.
Green finished the game with a game-high and career-high 24 points. Roger O’Neill added a career-high 17 points and Blake Poole tallied another double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
“We scrapped and battled tonight but they ended up shooting really well,” said head coach Keith Cooper. “We did some nice things offensively but they kept hitting threes. They are a good team and when they shoot well that are hard for anyone to beat.”
The Saints return home to take on the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, February 18, in the second game of a doubleheader.
