Lacey, WA – A solid night on both ends of the floor helped propel Central Washington University to an 83-68 win over Saint Martin’s Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup at the Marcus Pavilion.
After Central built up an 11 point lead, 38-27, with 3:50 to play in the first half the Saints used a 12-0 run to tie it 38-38 on a made free throw by Brady Bomber. Bomber hit his second from the charity stripe to give the Saints the one point advantage. Tyler Toussaint then hit a jumper to put the Wildcats back on top and they held a 42-39 lead at the break.
CWU didn’t trail the rest of the way and extended their lead to as much as 16. Saint Martin’s cut the deficit to six but would get no closer the rest of the way.
Blake Poole led the Saints with 19 points while Jared Howard added 15 points. Poole had a game-high 14 rebounds for SMU, who was outrebounded 49-29 in the game.
Central, led by JC Cook and Chris Sprinker with 15 points each, shot 51.7 percent from the field.
Bomber finished the game with 10 points and seven assists while Jeremy Green scored 10 points. The Saints fall to 11-7 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.
SMU is back in action next Thursday when they take on Western Oregon University as part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader at the Marcus Pavilion.
