Fairbanks, AK – Dara Zack led four players in double-figures as Saints Martin’s dominated Alaska Fairbanks in an 82-48 victory Saturday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at the Patty Center.
Zack had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds for SMU. Krissy Bassett had 16 points, Jamey Gelhar scored 12 with Megan Teade adding 10.
SMU used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to take a 31-19 lead and held on to a solid 41-27 advantage at the break.
The Saints continued to pour it on in the second half building their lead to as much as 39.
Saint Martin’s controlled the boards outrebounding the Nanooks 47-31. They also had five fewer turnovers, 15-10.
Jessica Harrison led Alaska Fairbanks with 18 points with Lakeshia Levi picking up 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Zack went eight for 14 from the field, including two of three from behind the arc, as SMU shot nearly 50 percent for the game (33-67). Saint Martin’s held the Nanooks to just 29.8 percent shooting (17-57).
The win snapped a seven game losing streak for the Saints as they improved to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the GNAC. The Nanooks fall to 1-15 on the season and 0-5 in conference.
The Saints return home to take on Central Washington University next Thursday, January 28, at the Marcus Pavilion.
