Women's Basketball: Saints can't rally from slow first half

Anchorage, AK – The 13th ranked University of Alaska Anchorage held Saint Martin’s to just 25 percent shooting from the field in the first half on their way to a 78-62 win Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
With the score 15-13 in favor of the Seawolves 10 minutes into the first half, UAA went on a 12-2 run to open up a double-digit lead. Anchorage would hold a 44-25 lead at the break.
The Saints tried to chip away in the second half, outscoring the Seawolves 37-34 and shooting 56 percent, but it wasn’t enough.
UAA shot 51.9 percent from behind the arc, sinking 14 of 27. Nikki Aden led the Seawolves with 18 points, going four of six from the three. Tamar Gruwell added 17 points and Hanna Johansson tallied 13 points.
Krissy Bassett posted a game-high 19 points with Jamey Gelhar adding 12. Dara Zack had 12 rebounds and nine assists in the losing effort.
The Saints are now 6-10 on the season, 0-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Alaska Anchorage improves to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
SMU will remain in Alaska to face the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks this Saturday.
