Lacey, WA – Western Washington shot nearly 50 percent from the field on their way to a 67-50 victory over Saint Martin’s in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday night at the Marcus Pavilion.
The Vikings were led by Amanda Dunbar with a game-high 20 points. Willow Cabe added 18 points and 13 rebounds for WWU, who improve to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the GNAC.
Dara Zack scored 16 points and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, 10 of them offensive, for SMU. Jamey Gelhar added 13 points while Krissy Bassett tacked on 12.
Saint Martin’s, who shot just 32.8 percent in the game, is now 6-9 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.
The Saints took an early 8-2 advantage thanks in part to back-to-back threes by Gelhar just four minutes into the game but WWU answered quickly.  Western scored 18 of the next 20 points over a five minute span to take a 20-10 lead. The Vikings held on to a 30-23 lead going in to the break.
Zack made a layup making it a five point ballgame to start the second half but that was as close as the Saints would get the rest of the game.
The Saints are on the road next week as they get set to take on Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks.
