Lacey, WA – Northwest Nazarene shot 50 percent from the three-point line, going 11 for 22, as they defeated Saint Martin’s 77-65 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Marcus Pavilion.
Both teams exchanged the lead ten times in the first 11 minutes of the game. With the score tied 25-25 Brittany Roggenkamp hit a three at the 8:57 mark that would put the Crusaders up for good.
NNU held a 47-41 advantage at the break but a layup and free throw by Krissy Bassett would cut it to three. But Janee Olds sank a three just seven seconds later to push it back to six at 50-44. The Saints would pull to within three twice more but that was as close as they would get.
Dara Zack had a game-high 20 points while Krissy Bassett tallied 19 points and eight rebounds. Jamey Gelhar added 10 points with three steals.
The Crusaders had a total of four players in double figures including Lindsay Brady with a team-high 17 points, four steals and three assists.
NNU, who held a 40-37 edge on the boards, improves to 11-2 on the season and an even 1-1 in conference. The loss puts the Saints at 6-7 overall, 0-2 in the GNAC, and snaps a six game home win streak.
Saint Martin’s is back on the road next Thursday, headed to Seattle Pacific to take on the Falcons.
