Lacey, WA – The Saint Martin’s men’s cross country team took their first ever team title under head coach Julie Sullivan while the women’s team finished third at the SMU Invite held on the Saint Martin’s campus Saturday morning.
Kyle Van Santen had the Saints highest finish with a time of 26:22.00 to take fourth place in the 8K. Spencer Hunt, Nick Harvey and Joseph Patti came in six, seven, and eight with times of 26:41.40, 27:11.80, and 27:25.40 respectively. Scott Bauer finished in 20th with a time of 29:04.00. Those five gave the Saints a total of 32 points, 17 ahead of second place finisher Pacific Lutheran.
On the women’s side, Krinda Carlson ran a great race to lead the Saints with an eighth place finish in a time of 24:56.60. Helen Camden was 11th in 25:11.80 followed by Kaitlynn Pecha in 13th with a time of 25:28.40. Annie Laweryson took 16th running a 25:44.70 while Karissa Owen was 25th in 27:10.90.
“This was a really positive and solid start to the cross country season,” said Sullivan. “Our guys excelled to win today, while our ladies were without two key runners and still performed better than last year.”
The next meet for the Saints will be on September 19th at the University of Washington Sundodger Meet.
