Olympia, WA – Both the men’s and women’s Saint Martin’s cross country teams finished second at the Pete Steilberg Geoduck Classic held on the Evergreen State College campus on Saturday.
The men ran first and were led by Kyle Van Santen who finished fourth in 25:57, just one second behind second place. Spencer Hunt broke into the top ten coming in ninth at 27:02 while Noah Caffrey had his best race of the season to be the third Saint home in 13th with a time of 27:15.
Nick Harvey was right behind in 14th and Joseph Patti was 16th with times of 27:21 and 27:56 respectively.
Annie Laweryson was the first woman in for the Saints in a down to the wire, sprint finish for eighth place in the women’s 5k. Annie’s time was 20:06, six seconds ahead of freshman Ashley Llapitan who ran herself into the top ten in the last half mile of the race posting a time of 20:12.
Helen Camden was right behind in 11th at 20:13 while Krinda Carlson was 15th in 20:48 and Kaitlynn Pecha was 16th in 20:49.
Simon Fraser scored a perfect 15 points, snagging the first seven spots in the women’s race. The Clan also took first in the men’s race.
“This was a good showing from our teams today,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “I have had the hammer down on these guys as we prepare for the important part of our season and there was no let up for this meet. I was very pleased with how everyone responded.”
The Saints next meet will be the Western Washington Invite which will be held at East Lacke Padden in Bellingham on October 10th.
