Lacey, WA – Lauren Roberts earned medalist honors leading Saint Martin’s to a victory at the SMU Women’s Golf Invitational played at the Links at Hawks Prairie Golf Course.
“It was great to host our own tournament and come away with a win,” said head coach Bob Grisham. “For the first tournament of year, a 316 and 319 shows the promise of this team for the year.”
Roberts posted a one under par 71 in the first round and followed that up with a 75 in round two for a total of 146, four shots ahead of the second place finisher.
Vanessa Sinclair shot a combined 156 to finish fourth while Karly Olsen posted a two round total of 161 to take eighth.
Alexi Coltom shot a 172, Kim Vivian a 177 and Liz Ferry a 178.
“Lauren played very well and really led the way for the team and Vanessa breaking 80 in both rounds was good to see. Those two had an outstanding tournament,” said Grisham.
As a team the Saints shot a 635 to edge out Concordia University by one stroke. Both teams shot a 319 in the final round but the Saints held onto a 316 after day one ahead of the Cavaliers who were at 317. The University of Victoria was third with a 637 and the University of Puget Sound took fourth with a 723.
The Saints next tournament will be this coming weekend when they head to Arizona to take part in the Grand Canyon Invitational.
