Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s had three players earn weekly conference honors this past week. Michael McIver was named as the baseball Player-of-the-Week while Holly Morris and Jamie Herrick were selected as the softball Player and Pitcher-of-the-Week respectively.
McIver had six hits in 13 at bats as the Saints split four game winning two of three against Northwest Nazarene and losing a single game to Western Oregon. He had three doubles and a homerun to drive in seven runs for SMU.
Morris was 10 for 12 in a four game sweep of Northwest Nazarene including two triples and two homeruns. Both triples came in Saturday’s first game and she became the 14th player in GNAC history to record two triples in the same game. Her two homeruns moved her into a tie for second place on the GNAC career homerun list with 35. Morris drove in five runs and reached base 15 0f 17 times in the series.
“Holly knew what she wanted to accomplish this weekend and didn’t let anything stand in her way,” said head coach Tiffany Qunell. “She stayed focused on defense and offense. Her talent and dedication in the sport showed this past weekend.”
Herrick allowed just one run in 11 innings as she pitched the Saints to two wins over the Crusaders. On Friday she tossed a 8-0 shutout as the Saints finished their season winning nine of their last 12 games.
“Jamie has been working hard all season and she was determined to end on a good note. She came out with a goal and met it. She has been a very consistent, dedicated pitcher for us,” said Qunell. “I’m very proud of both players; they ended their careers on a very high level.”
