Softball: Saints split to start off series
April 25, 2009
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got a solid combination of hitting and pitching to beat Western Washington University 8-0 in the opening game but couldn’t maintain it dropping the second game 12-1 Saturday at the SMU Softball Field.
SMU banged out 11 hits in game one. They plated four runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by RBI singles from Kristi Sigafoos and Kirstin Davidson. Saint Martin’s took a 5-0 lead into the fifth before tacking on three more runs.
Morgan Klemm led the Saints with three hits and three runs scored. Brandi Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey each added two. McGladrey also drove in two runs.
Brandi Klemm held WWU to just three hits in her five inning, complete game effort to earn the victory.
Western found its offense in game two as they scored in all but one inning. The Vikings built up a 8-0 lead before SMU got their first run of the game on an RBI single by Brandi Klemm.
Jessica Rosencrants started for the Vikings and threw all eight innings allowing just the one run and eight hits while striking out three.
Morgan Klemm was the only Saint to pick up more than one hit in the contest.
The Saints will finish the four game series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at noon. It is the last home game of the year and the Saints will honor their seniors between games.
