Bellingham, WA – Saint Martin’s pitching shut down the Western Washington offense to pick up two wins, 8-2 and 8-4, Tuesday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference make up games at Viking Field.
Amanda Arnzen threw all seven innings for the Saints in game one to earn the win. She gave up just five hits while striking out three and not allowing an earned run.
SMU got three runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead and put the game away with five more runs in the top of the seventh.
Brandi Klemm, Katie Payne, and Kirstin Davidson had two hits each for the Saints. Davidson and Kristine Kaneshiro drove in two runs apiece.
Saint Martin’s took a decisive 7-0 lead in the second game plating three runs in the first on a homerun by Holly Morris and adding four more in the third.
The Vikings tried to chip away scoring in the third, fourth and fifth innings but it wasn’t enough.
Jamie Herrick started for the Saints scattering just eight hits and striking out two for the victory.
Kaneshiro led the Saints with three hits and two runs scored. Brandi Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey each added two hits with McGladrey picking up two RBI.
The Saints will now play a makeup doubleheader with Montana State Billings on Thursday, April 23 in Spokane at Franklin Park with game time set for noon.
