Monmouth, OR – Western Oregon pitching held Saint Martin’s to just five hits on the day as they took both games of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 8-1, Saturday at the WOU Softball Field.
Jessica Wood pitched a five inning, two-hit shutout in the opener while the WOU bats came alive knocking in 10 runs for the win.
The Wolves took a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning before plating five more runs in the bottom of inning. Western hit three home runs in the contest, one each by Tyler Sutherland, Jessica Hallmark and Amanda Fleer.
Brandi Klemm and Morgan Klemm accounted for the Saints’ only hits.
In the nightcap Jessie Lessard gave up just three hits, surrendering one run while striking out nine.
Saint Martin’s took the early 1-0 lead as Kirstin Davidson lead off the third inning with a double and came around to score on a single by Brandi Klemm. The Wolves broke the game open in the fourth scoring all eight of their runs in the inning on four hits and three SMU errors.

Softball: Saints spilt with Wolves
Monmouth, OR – Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon divided a twinbill Sunday with SMU taking game one 6-3 before the Wolves won game two 4-3 at the WOU Softball Field.
Kirstin Davidson doubled to drive in the tying and go ahead run for SMU in a four run sixth inning to give the Saints the win. Holly Morris drove in three runs in the game including a two-run homer in the third.
Amanda Arnzen picked up the win for the Saints throwing seven innings and giving up just one earned run while striking out one.
In the second game Tyler Sutherland hit a two-run homerun in the fifth to give WOU a 4-1 advantage. Kelsie McGladrey answered with a homer of her own in the sixth for the Saints to make it 4-3.
SMU threatened in the seventh getting two singles before Stephanie Albrecht got the final two outs for the win.
Saint Martin’s will now travel to Western Washington to play a makeup game on Tuesday, April 21.
