Bellingham, WA – Saints Martin’s split a makeup doubleheader with Western Washington University taking game one 7-1 before losing 6-5 in the nightcap at Viking Field.
Brandi Klemm tossed a complete game in the opener allowing just one earned run through seven innings.
SMU took the early lead plating four runs in the second inning on one hit while taking advantage of two Viking errors. They tacked on two more in the third as Holly Morris led off the inning with a homer and Lisa Holombo singled to drive in a run.
Morris and Kristine Kaneshiro finished with two hits apiece while Kirstin Davidson had two RBIs in the game.
WWU went up 3-0 in the first inning of game two before the Saints came back in the top of the 6th. Morgan Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey both had RBI singles while Kristi Sigafoos drove in a run on a fielder’s choice to tie it 3-3.
But the Vikings answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-3. SMU got two more runs in the top half of the seventh but it wasn’t enough.
The Saints will take on Western Oregon University next weekend in a four-game series in Monmouth, OR.
