Women's Basketball: Toros take down Saints

Los Angeles, CA – Cal State Dominguez Hills came out on the winning end of a back and forth battle against Saint Martin’s, getting the 70-63 win over the Saints on Wednesday afternoon at the Torodome.
The lead changed hands 15 times throughout the game
Saint Martin’s grabbed the lead early but the Toros held the 34-29 advantage going into the break. It stayed close in the second half and with 3:11 left to play SMU held the 61-59 edge.
The Toros evened things at 61-61 with 2:48 on the clock. CSUDH went on to score nine of the final 11 points in the game for the win.
For the second night in a row Dara Zack scored a game-high 25 points and had six rebounds for Saint Martin’s. Krissy Bassett was the only other Saint in double-figures with 18 points while pulling down seven boards.
Dominguez Hills was led by Brandie McCann with 19 points. McKenzie Mathis added 12 and Whitney Gantt came off the bench to tally 13 points.
It was the bench that made the difference. The CSUDH bench scored 32 points while the Saints got only eight from the bench.
The win helps the Toros improve their record to 2-6 while SMU falls to 6-5.
The Saints will now have a short break before beginning Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on January 7, at Montana State Billings.
