Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s fought hard and made conference leader Alaska Anchorage work for their 3-0, 26-24, 25-19, 25-19, victory in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Saturday night at the Marcus Pavilion.
The Seawolves took a five point lead in the first set at 16-11 but SMU turned it on scoring six of the next seven points to make it 17-17. The two teams battled for the edge going point for point the rest of the way. With the score tied at 24 apiece Anchorage got back-to-back kills to put it away.
Set two was close until an 8-2 run by the Seawolves made it a 21-15 game and too much for the Saints to come back from. After UAA took a 19-13 lead in the third set SMU pulled to within two at 20-18. But the Seawolves ran off four straight points putting an end to the SMU rally.
Kristin Anderson had a team high nine kills with Teilissa Tua adding seven kills and four blocks. Theresia Dever had 17 digs on the defensive end while Cymbree Decosta added 10 digs and three blocks.
The Saints are on the road next Saturday against Seattle Pacific before returning for their final home game on Thursday, November 12.
