Yakima, WA – Kyle Van Santen finished eighth to post the highest finish for Saint Martin’s at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship at the Apple Ridge Run Course.
Van Santen covered the 8k course in 25:28 averaging 5:07 a mile to earn himself all-conference honors. The finish also put himself in contention for the West Regional Championships.
“Kyle ran a great race today,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “We had talked and planned for a top ten place today and we knew that it was going to be tough as our conference competition gets tougher each year. Kyle put himself in contention from the start and made the right moves at the right time.”
As a team the men finished seventh and the women finished ninth. Noah Caffrey finished in 27:56 and Nick Harvey in 28:01. Spencer Hunt and Joseph Patti were the other two scorer’s for the Saints with times of 28:16 and 28:19 respectively.
Annie Laweryson had the highest finish on the women’s side with a time of 25:01 while Ashley Llapitan was right behind at 25:07. Joscelyn Minton ran the course in 25:34 and Helen Camden was just one second behind at 25:35. Krinda Carlson ran a time of 25:55 to round out the Saints’ scorers.
Alaska Anchorage took the women’s team title and Western Washington was team champion on the men’s side.
