Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s volleyball struggled to find their rhythm as they lost to Montana State Billings in three games, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Thursday night at the Marcus Pavilion.
The Yellowjackets opened up a 16-9 before SMU closed the gap and made it a two point game at 19-17. But Billings used a 6-1 run to finish the game off and take the win.
MSUB led from the start in the second set, jumping out to a 13-3 advantage that the Saints just couldn’t overcome.
The third game stayed close until the Yellowjackets used a five point run to pull ahead 17-10. The Saints wouldn’t go down without a fight as they forged a comeback. Down 22-15 they scored seven of the next nine points to make it 24-22. But Billings came out of a timeout and got a kill from Jennifer Boe to put the game away.
Teilissa Tua posted a team high eight kills for Saint Martin’s while Brianna Bautista led with 12 digs. Devon Crotteau picked up a double-double for the Yellowjackets with 13 kills and 13 digs.
The Saints travel to Nampa, ID for a game against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, October 24th.
