Lacey, WA – Central Washington used a .252 hitting percentage to defeat Saint Martin’s in three sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at the Marcus Pavilion.
Central opened up a 7-1 lead in game two but the Saints closed the gap to within three at 17-14. The Wildcats then ran off five straight to pull away for the win.
The Wildcats used another five point run to take the second set. With the score 18-17 in favor of CWU, the Wildcats scored the next five to make it 23-17. Malia Ibarra got a kill for SMU but Central got the final two points on a kill by Meg Ryan and an attack error by the Saints.
Game three was close until the Wildcats went on a 9-1 run midway through the set to put the game out of reach for the Saints.
Kirstyn Druzianich had a team high 10 kills for SMU and Teilissa Tua added eight. Brianna Bautista posted a game high 22 digs while Ibarra had 14 and Kristin Anderson had 12. Central Washington held the slight edge on kills at 34-33 and both teams picked up 65 digs.
The Saints are at home for a game against Montana State Billings on Thursday, October 22nd.
