Slippery Rock, PA – Saint Martin’s John Riak battled the elements and came up short finishing in 101st at the NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships Saturday at Cooper’s Lake Campground.
Riak ran the snow covered course in a time of 33:17, below where he wanted to and was expected to finish.
"After the regional championship two weeks ago we were really excited about this race, but the conditions literally froze John out of the race. It was painfully cold and some runners, John included, suffered more than others," said head coach Julie Sullivan.
Scott Bauhs of Chico State won the Championship in a time of 30:22, just two weeks after taking first at the West Regional Meet.
