Rob Walker began the SMU Men’s and Women’s soccer programs at a club level in the fall of 2006 and has guided the Saints men and women in GNAC play from each team’s inaugural season that began in the fall of 2007. Walker is a 1987 graduate of Saint Martin’s, majoring in English and Education. A soccer coach for over 30 years, Walker has coached at the youth (recreation, select, premier), high school, Olympic Development (state, regional) and in the US National Teams program. Walker, a US Soccer “A” licensed coach, is a long-time clinician as well, instructing at the state and national levels of the US Soccer Coaching School licensing program.
In his time at Saint Martin’s, the men’s and women’s soccer program has grown from a program in its infancy to maturation during the 2009 season as the men won the GNAC Championship and the women finished a strong 3rd. Walker was named the GNAC Coach of the Year on the men's side and was awarded Co-Coach of the Year honors with the women.
Walker is an Olympia native (graduating from Olympia High School in 1979) and is married to his wife Deter (who graduated from North Thurston High School and is the mother of SMU graduate Kandi Keller and son Kasey, who plays in goal for the Seattle Sounders FC). The Walker’s are joined at home by their cat Gracie.
